About Me

Lovingly Sponsored by:

Cristal (aka Nugget) is one of the “Bubbles pups” born in foster care on December 10, 2020. Her mom was a rescue dog from Mexico who was rescued shortly before giving birth. As she’s really just a nugget of love, her foster family has been calling her Nugget.

Nugget can be a shy dog, but give her five to ten minutes to warm up and she’ll quickly be your best friend, seeking all the love and pets you can give her.
While specific DNA testing was not done on Nugget, four of her siblings had testing done which came out similar but not exact. It is possible the pups have different fathers, but we’ll never know. DNA from siblings show these pups have a little bit of everything in them:
Golden Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, Chihuaha, Labrador Retriever, Bulldog, Russell Terrier, Chow Chow, Sharpei, German Shepherd

Whatever her exact DNA we know Nugget is just a cute little pup who should be an awesome dog with continued love and training. She has the cutest ears that couldn’t quite figure out if they wanted to stand up or flop down so settled somewhere in the middle. The DNA results of siblings make us think adult weight will be between 35-50 pounds. She eats well, but is pretty thin and very agile. At 13 weeks, she weighed 16 pounds.

Did you catch that very agile comment? This girl can jump! You’d think she’s on little springs as she’ll bounce up onto the couch like its nothing and has been doing that since she was half her size. She’s also crazy smart. Her foster family has had to devise ever changing barriers to keep her where they need her as she seems to always be able to find an escape route. She’d probably do amazing with agility training if her forever family is interested.

Nugget sleeps well in a crate at night, putting herself to bed most nights like clockwork at 8 PM and going to the crate as her safe spot whenever she gets nervous. She’s doing well with potty training, but can piddle when she gets nervous, including on the vet when getting an exam. Her foster often leaves the backdoor open so she can go out as needed. She’s content to go in her crate when her foster needs to run an errand during the day, but we’d like to find a home where someone is home most of the time.

She took a recent trip in her foster family’s motorhome. She cried for the first 5 minutes and eventually slept, but that took her awhile to relax enough to sleep. She did get car sick and throw up. As she gets older and more confident with her forever family she should do well, but her family will need to be patient with her.

My Ideal Home

Her mom, Bubbles, did not get along well with other dogs she met in foster care. She seems to do well having another dog to guide her and ease her fears, but can play pretty rough with her brother, Chandon, who she’s been fostered with. For these reasons the ideal home for Nugget will have:

– An owner who has experienced with medium to large size dogs, especially ones who have been shy or nervous
– No young children
– A large, submissive dog (she loves the nine year old golden in her foster home)
– Someone home with her much of the time and willing to train her to grow into her best self.

Overall Nugget is a sweet dog who will be a tremendous companion. However, she is a puppy and will need plenty of training to help her grow into her best self.
