Benni was 7-years old when I adopted him on May 2018 from the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue of which I am a volunteer. I am confident that they were the happiest times of his life. They were certainly the best 20 months of my life.

Benni was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. Extraordinary measures extended his life by months but eventually the tumors returned.  Even to the end, he would run to the door whenever I came home with tail wagging and eyes that told me, “I love you”. He still had a hearty appetite for rotisserie chicken, baked yam and cheese. He had an Islands hamburger with fries to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

January 2nd, he couldn’t walk anymore. I had never had to euthanize a dog. It was one of the three worst days of my life. Before he passed away I tried to assure him that his spirit would soon be free and he would no longer feel pain or fatigue. I told him that he, his dog sister and I would be reunited again in the not too distant future.

I will love and remember you each day, Benni, for the rest of my life.
